We are trained for that, if anything happens, we know how to react," Syed Zahiruddin said.

Ostex East 1/09 in the waters of Sabah and Sarawak involves three phases - the port phase Monday, the sea phase from March 24-26 and the closing phase on March 28.

The primary objective is to enhance the readiness of navy vessels to a maximum level and at the same time test the skills of sailors under the RMN Region Two command in discharging their duties.

Syed Zahiruddin said additional features of the exercise this time are port defence training and war games exercises.

"This is also the first time we are using RMAF aircraft," he said.

Besides military aspects, the exercise is also directed at social and humanitarian aid in line with the global scenario. - Bernamadlimlisahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10238247591565810954noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3675818462671304490.post-70039310044421186972009-03-28T18:40:00.007+08:002009-03-28T19:16:11.152+08:00Petrol Gas Station in Kudat | Stesen Minyak di KudatThere are 3 Gas Station in Kudat - Shell, ESSO and Pertonas;

The Shell Pertol Gas Station in Kudat:

Business Hours: 7:00 am until 8:00 pm Every Day

Tredmark location: First Roundabouts in Kudat Town - old street/ town

The ESSO Pertrol Gas Station:

Businees Hours: 7: 00 am until 7:00 pm

Tredmark Location: Near the Kudat Ports/ Old town

The Petronas Pertrol Gas Station:

Business Hours: 7:00 am until 7:00 pm

Tredmark Location Near the Esplanade Sidek, Kudat.

Note: There are no Petrol gas station from Kota Belud Town to Kudat town road (70 KM) or Kota Marudu Town to Kudat town road (40 KM).

dlimlisahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10238247591565810954noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3675818462671304490.post-73503258221694618942009-03-06T09:43:00.004+08:002009-03-06T09:54:18.469+08:00Kudat PortKudat Port

c/o SABAH PORTS SDN BHD
P.O. The Kota Kinabalu Symphony Orchestra has proven that performing in such an unconventional venue can be an unforgettable experience for not only themselves but particularly for the audience too.

May 13 this year, coincidentally holds a special significance for the event as not only will the Kota Kinabalu Symphony Orchestra be performing against the backdrop of the sun setting, but also during a rising glorious full moon. This full moon only occurs on the 13th of May every 19 years, bringing you another reason not to give this exciting event a miss at the most spectacular site, the meeting point of the South China and Sulu Seas.

Only 2 years old, Kota Kinabalu Symphony Orchestra (KKSO) is an ensemble of 100 young and aspiring musicians, whom are mostly primary and secondary school children under the leadership of Mr. Liaw Liam Thye, the chairman of this exclusive musical ensemble.
This musical ensemble, which is Sabah's first and only orchestra, has been performing extensively in Kota Kinabalu since its inception in 2004. The Kota Kinabalu Symphony Orchestra even had a chance to perform with famous German concert guitarist Peter Korbel early March this year.

The orchestra's performance led by music conductor; Yap Ling a versatile Malaysian musician and talented violinist, is set to enthrall the audience with a variety of classical favorites and popular Kadazandusun, Malay, Chinese and English songs.

This year, the organizer will be inviting Datuk Ooi Chean See, the outgoing Resident Conductor of the prestigious Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO). Datuk Ooi Chean See is among the few women in the classical music world to hold a major position as a conductor of an international orchestra. Datuk Ooi's work as a conductor has taken her throughout most of Europe, South America and parts of South East Asia. She has also held workshops in Malaysia, Germany, France, Manila and Korea.

The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra did their first ever concert performance in Kota Kinabalu in 2003. Datuk Ooi's special appearance as the guest conductor at the Sunset Symphony at the Tip of Borneo is expected to enthrall the audience at this spectacular outdoor performance.
YM Tengku Datuk Zainal Adlin, Chairman of Sabah Tourism Board says that "it is timely for Sabah to at last have its own orchestra. The success of this orchestra can be attributed to the various musical performances including Malaysia's National Symphony Orchestra, The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, The National Choir and the much-acclaimed Dama Orchestra that was brought in by Sabah Tourism Board under the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment over the past few years, with its objective to inculcate and nurture the appreciation of classical music in Sabah".

This event is brought to you by Sabah Tourism Board and is organised by its wholly owned subsidiary company, Sri Pelancongan Sabah Sdn Bhd.
(Source: , 27 Apr 2006) http://www.sabahtourism.comdlimlisahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10238247591565810954noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3675818462671304490.post-48713400930707404522009-02-19T21:07:00.002+08:002009-02-19T21:53:26.160+08:00Kudat GuideKudat is a town in Sabah, Malaysia.

Getting There:
Kudat is 190Kilometre from Kota Kinabalu. It was declared globally significant for its rich mix of habitats (coral reefs, seagrasses, mangroves, and open sea), endangered species such as dugong and sea turtles, and its fisheries. Kudat-Banggi forms the southern half of the Balabac Straits separating Borneo from Palawan, Philippines and joins the Sulu Sea to the South China Sea. The straits are an important passage for oceanic fish, whale sharks and sea turtles. This area is home to the second largest concentration of coral reefs in Malaysia.

The Sabah State Government proposed the area for gazettement as the Tun Mustapha Park under the jurisdiction of Sabah Parks. When gazetted, it will be the largest marine protected area in Malaysia and one of the largest in Southeast Asia at over 1 million hectares. WWF-Malaysia is assisting the state government to create the Tun Mustapha Park as a multiple-use marine area.

WWF-Malaysia concentrates on building support for the park amongst stakeholders. The estimated 80,000 people of various ethnic origins living in and around the proposed park earn their livelihoods from the areas’ resources. WWF-Malaysia believes that these people must benefit from the park and vice versa. The park should enhance livelihoods and access to resources while stakeholders, inhabitants and visitors should cooperate with relevant agencies in park management.

WWF-Malaysia is working with Sabah Parks to raise awareness of local communities throughout the park on its benefits. We visit more than 50 villages to collect information on resource use such as fishing and collection of invertebrates, to inform the design of zones for conservation, traditional fishing, commercial fishing, tourism and others.

Support can best be gained by demonstrating the benefits of the park. Marine protected areas the world over have shown quick and efficient increase in numbers and diversity of fish. WWF-Malaysia is working with local communities, Sabah Parks and the Department of Fisheries Sabah on a demonstration “no-take” zone to be managed and enforced in partnership with neighbouring communities.

WWF-Malaysia operates the Banggi Environmental Awareness Centre in Karakit, the largest town on Banggi Island. This educational and information centre showcases the environment and marine resources for the people of Pulau Banggi, Pulau Balambangan and Pulau Malawali. Regular programmes are held for school children and adults while at other times, it serves as a museum about Pulau Banggi.

Source: WWF
dlimlisahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10238247591565810954noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3675818462671304490.post-42539677746697026062008-11-15T21:21:00.001+08:002009-02-16T16:17:54.072+08:00Gombizau Honey Bee Farm<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmhL7UADRBmxoSpUWsPgkH-jaRUgPnBWu3AYdQhIPdN4GrAR1TAmsV5UxpcBoGKauAens7X_ThyKKqS_nrVTGCH10SvlKUYfALqeFsEYCmm_2sOmSki9zb8sb5P8SYDZ5ODVkNgJyaE2w/s400/101000074_3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5268874668784817218" />
Kudat

Gombizau Honey Bee Farm is located in Matunggong, a sub-district 43 kilometers south of Kudat town, where one of the economical activities for the village community is honey bee farming. It is located in the Kudat Peninsula, about three and a half hours (or 215 kilometres) drive from Kota Kinabalu City.

Simpang Mengayau means 'lingering junction' as it is here that the South China Sea lingers and meets the Sulu Seas flowing from the east ... Enjoy the stunning view. The sunsets and full moons are just beautiful ... The Pulau Kalampunian lighthouse is a reminder of treacherous coastline and past shipwrecks. On the left is the beautiful beach of Pantai Kalampunian.

It's a lovely easy stroll to the flagpole, the Globe and the rocky outcrop that forms the "Tip of Borneo".

Facilities:
There is a cafe, souvenir shop and washrooms.

Admission is free.

Getting there (from Kota Kinabalu)

You can go by taxi, self-drive or with a tour agent. Four-wheel drives and saloon cars with permits are stationed near the Indian Restaurant opposite the Health Clinic in Kampung Air. Four-wheel drives can take between 7-8 passengers at RM20.00 - RM25.00 per pax return, while saloon cars take up to 4 passengers and charge RM240.00 for a return trip to Simpang Mengayau.dlimlisahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10238247591565810954noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3675818462671304490.post-2917865728192543912008-03-22T00:03:00.008+08:002008-09-29T11:37:30.034+08:00Need The e-Map Of Malaysia/ Sabah<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrfmytfCANS1CmbwYSf0NxDPSaLNc25LcP9Fzt4mYz4qkv0QMvhPxBGcVNB-AMxBtrquinlbcAe7hJFy7LxytJZggsKmzeY_7CDDZvaIDnbNTh_O4NlOUYWyNb-5_0IT4YmY973UYyo3s/s320/Map_of+_Malaysia_Kudat.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5180227906068335890" />

The e-Map Book Of Malaysia is fully updated 2007/2008.This Emap includes 'Malaysia places of interest" and with 14 maps of state within Malaysia. It serves as the administrative center for the Kudat Division, which includes the towns of Kudat, Pitas, Kota Marudu, and some offshore islands.

Kudat is located on the coast of the northernmost part of Sabah, some 190 kilometers north of Kota Kinabalu, the state capital. On the west, it faces the South China Sea, and on the east the Sulu Sea. It is at latitude 6°55'north, longitude 116°50'east.

Kudat's population (2000) was 68,242. The ethnic composition is mainly Rungus, a sub-group of the indigenous Kadazan. About 10% of the population is ethnic Chinese, and there are minorities of Bajau, Dusun, Murut, Bugis, and Malay. However, there is also a considerable number of unregistered illegal immigrants from the nearby Philippines, notably from the Sulu regions and Mindanao.

KudatThe town was founded by A H Everett of the British North Borneo Company on December 7, 1881 to be the first capital of British North Borneo, due to its strategic geographic location. However, after being repeatedly raided by Bajau, Sulu and Illanun pirates, after a couple of years the capital was shifted to the more secure port of Sandakan, on the east coast.

It is not a well known location for foreign visitors, however several modern beach resorts and golf courses. Local attractions include tours to nearby Rungus longhouses, where traditional brass gongs are made, and where honey is produced and to Tanjung Simpang Mengayau, the northernmost point on the island of Borneo.

Source:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kudat
Tag:the tip of borneo,simpang mengayau kudat,kudat map,tanjung simpang mengayau ,kelambu beach ,kudat peninsuladlimlisahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10238247591565810954noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3675818462671304490.post-45486699459128495852007-07-12T13:05:00.002+08:002008-09-29T13:21:40.046+08:00Kudat town | district<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgE5s0S9Lr0Wn1mg8v0XxcdDTAvFO4mag8Qze8S2KuBzvqrfq3sqiQz3FTqMK8FftWQ1pdP3XFppFUJXuRP83wWcHLgeb0_4FayKkl60p-1lntcKWQY7AltgiYYN0XVq6g22DlAroDRY6o/s320/kudat_map.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5086183846019126290" />
Kudat in the north of Sabah is a place of great historical significance - though few nowadays even know that Kudat was actually Sabah's very first capital back in 1882! But there is yet to be discovered more!

Locally once known as Tomburungan because of the Tomburungan River, Kudat has for centuries been a trading point between the people of Borneo and the Chinese, Bruneis, and other seafarers and adventurers, quite a number amongst them Europeans. Most recent discoveries seem to prove that the area of Kudat was already a trading post during the Sung Dynasty, some 1000 years ago!

Unfortunately tracing Sabah's history is extremely difficult as there is very little else than oral history and legends that have survived. Thus we only know for sure that the English have indeed declared Kudat capital, but only for two years. Chronic water shortage - Kudat has always been Sabah's driest part - forced the British to move on and abandon their dreams of a 'Singapore on Borneo'. They moved to Sandakan where they established Sabah's administrative capital and this remained unchanged until WWII.

The indigenous people who live on the Kudat Peninsula and on the east side of Marudu Bay are the Rungus, and they traditionally they live in Longhouses inland. A sub-group of the Kadazandusun they remain one of Sabah's most traditionalist people and their women are skilled in rare handicrafts like intricately woven fabrics, bead works and fine basketry. Along the cost live Muslim tribes, notably the Bajau, Iranun, Suluk, Ubian and Kagayan. The Chinese that live in the Kudat area are mostly Hakka. Their forefathers came with the British in the late 19th century because of labour shortage. They developped farmlands and established coconut plantations, still a predominant feature of Kudat's landscape to-day.

Kudat itself is an attractive and clean town, with a distinct 'old' part, and the newer quarters. It is a happy blend of traditional fan-cooled coffee shops, mixed traders, workshops, boutiques and hotels. The road system is easy and never jammed - that is, until now! - and you never have to worry about finding a parking in Kudat. That is what I call great luxury, because Kudat is really worth a visit! Stroll through the wide pedestrian areas where you can mingle with old and young and observe the trends of life: the old people in turban, black, home woven skirts and beaded necklaces, rattan baskets and finely worked betel boxes, always ready for a chat... and the young people in jeans, t-shirt and hip earrings, hand phones always pressed to their ear...

Kudat is renowned for its seafood, and virtually any restaurant in town will serve you only the best fresh fish and prawns, at very attractive places. Popular eateries include the night markets that appear in the evening around the fish market, and 'The Ocean' at the far end of the Kudat Sidek Sea-front Esplanade.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg98NvLAG28JwjuauXAj6stGn4sBIkjTuU3nB3L0LL_L2A3a9PFnkjJMfMZ6JGOL0TdaXv9nktxfaGun1XBmUjoD-a_GgIdX_SK8Lb4qlpueg7lFPT1sU2_WuckmHEf-RKjtZPAeaHxq3g/s320/sabah_longhouse_kudat.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5086184490264220706" />dlimlisahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10238247591565810954noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3675818462671304490.post-41669402042879557102007-07-12T13:05:00.001+08:002008-09-29T11:38:54.218+08:00The Rungus race of Kudat<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqFvFcPZuI4POV_Dquv-tPKqqW11Y7WKFVb0VfPyOyY1FZw4HbKoiCZ6X7AcFUKW96oquunSrYvj-Tq7cxWZlIZyGzFA6kM4763syYX5Yg1oSmjG0Mjty21TDfuX96eR_FmtKDaZDykow/s320/sabah_longhouse_kudat.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5086185379322450994" />
The Rungus are the most traditional ethnic group in Sabah. They remain remarkably strong in this time of transition, and keep up with an age-old life-style. Their life, as that of most tribes in Borneo, turns around rice: the preparing of the padi filed, or the clearance of a hill plot, the growing of rice and looking after it, and finally the harvest. Large coconut and banana groves enable the Rungus to get cash, but in all, their traditional life-style suits them very much and seems to keep them out of trouble and stress.

The Rungus seem to have been the last Dusunic immigrants to Sabah to settle here permanently, long before the arrival of the British. They have up to-date conserved much of their cultural heritage. The Rungus are a sub-group of the Kadazan-Dusun, with a distinctive language and a few dialects, architecture, adat (customs), and outfit. Many people still dress they way they have attired when they were still unaffected by outside influences, and it is presumed that most of the other tribes of the Kadazan-Dusun community had similar dresses and attires: simple black sarongs for the women, and wide black trousers for the men.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3EzoWdnmnCl67SwnPS24kUZlFQndx7xJNwkB-Ce1BiOEXPMZZQcbM048JxaNQS_ihS2z_fKfJTjAki3CwTE-jQnjVeY5x05rJdDUGZ_ZsduEVXk-YlEDdD-lwi9OCggyQTtrioEbkfUI/s320/11159997_cdb448c783_m.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5086185795934278722" />
A visit to an indigenous longhouse is a tremendous and exciting experience. There are only a few places that do cater for tourists on a regular basis, such as the Bavanggazo Longhouse, or the Tinangol Longhouse. These places come with certain facilities that make the stay for foreign travellers and visitors more comfortable. However, travelling in the area of Kudat, taking some abandoned road, stalking along rivers and through lofty coconut groves, one will still come across the traditional longhouse, minus the thatched roof. Corrugated iron has replaced the atap, demanding less maintenance. The Rungus Longhouse is quite different form the Murut Longhouse, equally to be found in Sabah. The houses are not perched on excessively high stilts, they are usually only about three to five feet above ground. The roof is low, and in olden times, longhouses of 75 doors have existed. Now, they rarely exceed 10 doors, along the communal gallery that has an elevated platform of split bamboo. The house is framed by outward sloping walls of wide-spaced poles. This provides ventilation and a comfortable sitting area for work, relaxation and socialising. Where there is a longhouse, some ‘one-family’ houses might exist, and they look always curiously as if they had been cut out of the original longhouse, like a piece of cake.

Dogs, chicken and other domesticated animal abound in the clearing where the houses stand, and kids too young to help with the daily cores play in the sand. They will quickly announce the arrival of a stranger, and whoever passes will be invited into the house for a rest. During the hot afternoons, a palpable laziness prevails in the houses. People may doze on the platform in the gallery, do some handicraft, or are at work in the fields, or catch fish and crabs. But when they come back in the late afternoon, the gallery bounces under the many feet.

At a longhouse, it is always possible to stay over night. One has to enquire for the chief of the house, who will accommodate the strangers. Against exchanged goods (or money…), he also provides food. With some luck one is invited to taste some local specialities, and drink some tinonggilan, a slightly sparkling, reasonably alcoholic brew made from maize. This is quite a Rungus speciality. Strangers sleep on the elevated platform in the gallery, together with the bachelors.

When the house gets alive in the late afternoon, the ladies will take out their work of basketry, string beads or weave sashes on backstrap looms. It is not infrequent to see old ladies who have their wrists still encircled by brass coils with white and black shell-bracelets at either end, and wear the traditional home-woven sarong. They also wear antique heirloom beads, and the betel container is an old, finely worked Bruneian receptacle. Ladies who do wear traditional gear are often very much respected Bobolizans, the shamans of the Rungus. Besides traditional healing with natural herbs the Bobolizans are here to maintain harmony between humans, nature and astral world according to their age-old belief system.

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPkF_6rxpOEJoakPXMZ7hI3rpU2zFocrWyhmzs-JSJ3YXP0VMzAjjfTC3Cm-gTEKYRDe8W-LijBKP5nAi8ImE0BjcBGEs-WAtJcUD75MQRb2-4Nh9pZHrQEMF-JnlRXSSfPzsx-0oWN9k/s320/runguslonghouse1.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5086187273403028578" />
When it gets dark, you are lucky if there is no generator to provide electric light. You are taken on a journey back in time. Tiny little oil-lamps appear, perhaps a gas-pressure lamp, and people gather by families and friends to discuss daily matters and exchange gossip. It is only after nightfall that the ladies will start husking the rice for the evening and breakfast meal, in old, wooden mortars with heavy pestles of ironwood. The sound and rhythm of the pounding of rice, the women winnowing in the twilight, the pigs grunting under the floor of the house, all contributes to give the whole an air of peace and long past days.

But despite this peace and aspect of eternal sleepiness, the Rungus are far from being disconnected from our modern times. Cash-crops have allowed them already over the last 30 years to earn money, and in some cases wealth. The young people are being educated, some of them having reached university degrees and have entered the Sabah State Government.

Many Rungus work in town, and they seem generally quite enterprising. Nevertheless, often when there is enough money to pay dowries, the men prefer going back to the quiet and peaceful life of the kampung, where they take a wife. Then they might engage, next to their farming activities, in tourism, and Bavanggazo and Tinangol are good examples of the spirit of enterprise of the Rungus.

Sumangkap is another such an example, a village where almost everybody is making gongs – the most important instrument throughout Borneo. The Rungus have indeed mastered to an advanced degree the difficult and tricky combination of a traditional life-style with the advancement of ‘modern’ ideas, and preserved ancient skills, in a world spinning much faster around them.
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiu4dzBi0p9v92yndIETH1E2JPsHchBcrDHA-daqcxCJtOKPve5Dw0NLBfqN-9EvKI7wqiLphDorwe1Zn0Fc0ShwbC9o-9RCq2xefB9A_dbSuXg81OigmtTcbqwqSrNblcLFV3LnPIA5bM/s320/kudat+rungus.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5086186324215256146" />dlimlisahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10238247591565810954noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3675818462671304490.post-90670126682281954912007-07-12T13:04:00.001+08:002007-07-12T14:15:49.898+08:00Tanjung Simpang Mengayau | The Tip of Borneo<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHr2IJqTa-r1QNy3S7KSY8wjkkJ90DT3YNjTkOQ2-3XbXfMGlPixt_2ErX1yTnOkEjNk9Nw9i8UAtNzXADF3blskHdzZsnPUc8BnKm-pDN7l5ygHc2ogAf0MU5zip2e7QH2jMWKiPtglw/s320/the+tip+of+borneo6.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5086189090174194834" />
The northernmost tip of Borneo is locally known as Simpang Mengayau. Some 40 kilometers from Kudat, a historically important town in the very north of Sabah Simpang Mengayau has remained relatively undisturbed and was only recently "discovered" as a tourism destination. Pristine beaches, indigenous longhouses, secluded diving, intricate handicraft by the Rungus people - the ethnic entity that populates the Kudat Peninsula - await you along with villages where gongs are manufactured, simply the percussion instrument throughout Borneo.

Over the past couple of years the peninsula has seen tremendous upgrading of infrastructure, and Kudat as well as the very tip of Borneo, the world's third largest island, is now accessible by car in little under three hours. But why the rush: take your time, stop by at the many markets, visit the 'one village one trade' kampungs of Gombizau (honey), Sumangkap (gongs), Tinanggol (beads) and Bavanggazo (longhouse living culture). Meet the locals and chat with them; stroll through the fish markets of Kudat where some of Sabah's best seafood comes from. And enjoy a sumptuous meal, be it for lunch or dinner, of the best the seas can offer at unbeatable prices.

Relax on some of the most beautiful beaches you'll ever see, and if you are a diver you will find the area not only intriguing for its marine life, but also for the treasure trove of ancient wrecks that can be found in the north of Sabah.
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieYD8S5vhjFv_GOD7NGtkBZH4V-2X7C-PYVY9K8CXuTkCe9D9H6rKTEhnliwsvmwYca7ylBLm-S5Fis2fgUWOYoRZVQJ5c89iBNTCfg4NWz7YOv3KHZeSBfOA1No5cJOJy9SBbY_H3LCw/s320/the+tip+of+borneo4.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5086188360029754482" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMRAXIm94Irb2pLUv9cBZPJNpV7Dn1HOUUy5yHu2eyC_UDQ46Tyv2CzxI2_l05qrpjcwycA3kQFgKZl6ZvlBb_9hoiKrpUiw6PdpXiC7toDu3KXxnd0SXFpFsAOcXEWeTjnM43kQ7_KoE/s320/the+tip+of+borneo.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5086188643497596034" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0tuVrShNaletNVOvVBCgsGOP4pmlKqZNljFgrFY3OXdgFHt9y0yPlCVxdwISB9htLr9wpnnhooUXyZQOtLF6sWsRSAixyRUqxw4XlEheOP-c_7P03maq2xnS-KmUCv3jSHLwTEentJG4/s320/the+tip+of+borneo5.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5086190133851247778" />dlimlisahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10238247591565810954noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3675818462671304490.post-13368105423462289352007-07-12T13:03:00.004+08:002008-09-29T11:43:25.506+08:00Rungus Longhouse | Kampung BavanggazoTraditionally, the Rungus people live in longhouses built on stilts, but the shift to modern-day living has meant that the sight of such longhouses are getting more rare. In Kg. Bavanggazo near Tinangol in the Kudat district, you can still experience this fascinating communal lifestyle in a purpose-built longhouse constructed entirely of traditional materials but with added modern comforts like toilets and showers.

Situated in a valley about 41 kilometres south of Kudat town and 98 kilometres or two and a half hours drive from KK City, you can get a taste of real Rungus living through their food, daily rituals and music on a day trip or overnight stay. The later will need prior arrangements
In Bavanggazo you can meet and mingle with the local people and admire their elaborate traditional costumes. In the not too distant past, the Rungus women used to wear brass coils around their arms, legs and neck, and many strings of colourful glass beads and semi-precious stones Chinese traders brought to the area hundreds of years ago. Their costumes are intricately woven from home-spun cotton, and the men wear an elaborate turban-like headgear. Although it is nowadays rare to find people who still don a complete set of the traditional outfit outside festive days, it is quite common to find ladies who still wear their heavy arm coils, and elder men with their colourful headgear.

The Rungus are renowned for their skilled basketry, fine bead work and weaving, and many local souvenirs on offer throughout Sabah are manufactured by the Rungus in Kudat.dlimlisahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10238247591565810954noreply@blogger.com0
